PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition for an optical waveguide having an excellent heat resistance, an optical waveguide having an excellent heat resistance, a passive optical waveguide having an excellent optical characteristic, an active optical waveguide having an excellent optical characteristic and an electrooptic effect, and a method of manufacturing the active optical waveguide having an excellent heat resistance, an optical characteristic and an electrooptic effect. SOLUTION: The present invention provides: the composition for an optical waveguide including a polymer having a repeated units including nitrogen-contained heterocycle; the optical waveguide composed of a polymer having a repeated units including nitrogen-contained heterocycle; the passive optical waveguide having a triple layer structure composed of a lower clad layer, a core layer and an upper clad layer; the active optical waveguide having a triple layer structure composed of a lower clad layer, a core layer and an upper clad layer; and the method of manufacturing the active optical waveguide which is characterized by that an electrooptic material in a polymer having the repeated unit including the nitrogen-contained heterocycle is oriented by heating and external filed force.
