PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To upgrade photodetecting characteristics of an optical semiconductor device and to perform the size reduction and the cost reduction of the optical semiconductor device by preventing an irregular reflection light from entering into a photodetector of an optical semiconductor element, by suppressing the generation of the irregular reflection light due to the introduction of an exterior light in the optical semiconductor device. SOLUTION: An optical semiconductor device 6 includes a rectangular shape insulating base 1 having a placing part of an optical semiconductor element 5 at the center of the upper surface, a rectangular shape light shielding frame 3 connected to surround the placing part on the outer periphery of the upper surface of the insulating base 1, the optical semiconductor element 5 having the photodetecting part on the upper surface of the frame 3, and a cover 4 connected to the upper surface of the frame 3. The frame 3 has overhanging parts 3a along the photodetecting part of the optical semiconductor element 5 on the inner surfaces of the long sides opposed to each other. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
