<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inexpensively record a high resolution image and reduce the total printing time when the same image is printed more than one time, when a low resolution recording is performed. <P>SOLUTION: The color thermal printer is provided with a frame memory 36 to store image data for Y, M and C, the image processing of which is finished. A CPU compares the total size of image data for three colors to be printed with the capacity of the frame memory 36. When the total size is smaller than the capacity, image data for the three colors is stored in the frame memory 36 as shown in Fig. (A) and sequentially the three-color images are recorded. On the other hand, when the total size is larger than the memory capacity, as shown in Fig. (B), the image data is stored in the frame memory 36 one color after another.
