PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apoptosis-inducing agent which uses a compound originated from a natural substance as a raw material and is selective against pathogenic cells such as cancer cells and virus-infected cells, to provide a medicine for the effective and safe prevention and treatment of various diseases, and to provide a health food which contains the compound capable of inducing an apoptosis selective for pathogenic cells such as cancer cells and virus-infected cells.

SOLUTION: This apoptosis-inducing agent against pathogenic cells such as cancer cells and virus-infected cells is characterized by comprising an alkylcyclodextrin or an alkylcyclodextrin-containing composition. A medicine composition and a food each contains the alkylcyclodextrin or the alkylcyclodextrin-containing composition.
