<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a spatial light modulator with which light intensity is continuously modulated by the magneto-optic effect of a layer having the magneto-optic effect by selecting and magnetizing a specified part of a continuous magnetic body by using simple x wiring lines and y wiring lines. <P>SOLUTION: The spatial light modulator has at least the layer having the magneto-optic effect and a magnetic field producing layer. A plurality of magnetic domains are defined on the layer having the magneto-optic effect. The magnetic field producing layer is provided with at least one layer of a wiring layer equipped with longitudinal wiring lines (a longitudinal wiring layer) and one layer of a wiring layer equipped with lateral wiring lines (a lateral wiring layer) respectively, imparting a magnetic field to respective magnetic domains. The spatial light modulator has a current driving means which supplies currents in a forward direction or in a backward direction to the respective wiring lines or stops them. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
