Loop-type reactor column - circulates and mixes viscous liq. to small droplet size using static and rotating shear elements

Viscous liq. entering a reactor column to be reduced to very small droplets is forced by curved base surfaces to start a loop circulation by rising in a central tubular t insert, past a bulbous lower end of the insert. After discharge through a ring of slots round the insert head, liq. resumes its loop path down the exterior of the insert, and turns round the terminal bulbs to be further mixed in the insert with freshly arriving liq. At the downsteram end of the thicker insert the liq. is subjected to shear forces between a stator at the insert end and fins extending down from a rotor plate integral with an external drive shaft and also forming the insert cover. Droplets reduced to suitable size pass through a narrow annular gap round the insert into a collector chamber and finally an outlet. A dynamic version of the static reactor has a central feed worm in the insert. USE - Used for homogenising milk and other processing of foodstuffs. Short drive shaft permits high speed rotation in providing shear forces.
