<p>A novel chain lactic acid oligomer derivative represented by the following general formula (I): wherein m is an integer of 2 or lager and Y represents -COR<1> or -R<2> (wherein R<1> represents an optionally substituted aliphatic, aryl, or heterocyclic group and R<2> represents an optionally substituted heterocyclic group). This chain lactic acid oligomer derivative is useful as an intermediate for the synthesis of a cyclic lactic acid oligomer.</p>
