PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a resistance force specifying method and system for easily deciding the resistance force of a vibration energy absorbing device, and for achieving the reduction of any labor, the shortening of a time and the reduction of expenses required for decision. SOLUTION: A resistance force specifying system 1 is provided with a chart storing means 10 for storing a plurality of charts 9 showing a relation between the response displacement of a mass body 2a to a vibration source 3a in a structural model 7 and a value P associated with the rate of a mass W of the mass body 2a to a resistance force Q of attenuating elements 5a in each unique cycle T of the structural model 7, a calculating means 11 for calculating the unique cycle T of a bridge girder 2 based on the mass W of the bridge girder 2 and a shear spring constant K of a base isolation support 4 and a deciding means 12 for specifying the chart 9 corresponding to the unique cycle T from the plurality of charts 9 stored in the chart storing means 10, and for deciding the resistance force Q of a dumper 5 required for setting the response displacement of the bridge girder 2 to a bridge pier 3 within the range of allowable response displacement based on the specified chart 9.
