PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a new image reader by which timing for shifting electric charge and timing in which a light source is lit are set so that correspondence relation between quantity of the electronic charge generated by photoelectric conversion and stored and an image becomes accurate. SOLUTION: The image reader is provided with: the light source which irradiates an original document with light; a light source lighting means which lights the light source by applying drive voltage to the light source; a photoelectric conversion means for converting reflected light or transmitted light of the light from the original into the electric charge; and an electric charge transfer means for transferring the electric charge for converting the electric charge into an image signal, and the reader reads an image drawn on the original as the image signal. The image reader is provided with a shift control signal generation means for generating a shift control signal for controlling timing in which the electric charge is shifted, and a lighting control signal generation means for generating a lighting control signal for controlling timing in which the drive voltage is applied, and makes waveform of the lighting control signal into the one that the same waveform is repeated by using one period of the shift control signal as a repetition unit.
