PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform compression encoding in real time and to also suppress deterioration in reproduced picture quality, with respect to video data recording techniques.

SOLUTION: Mixed video data resulting from mixing a plurality of pieces of video data in a time division manner are stored in a memory, predetermined video data are selected and repeatedly read from the memory in accordance with the number of frames or the number of fields in each piece of video data, and on the basis of the compression encoding information of the predetermined video data which are read for the first time, compression encoding is applied to video data which are read for the second time.
