<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent field emission performance from being deteriorated, by enhancing adhesion of a lower electrode and a carbon material, suppressing uneven luminance in a picture element and between the picture elements, and enhancing heat resistance of the carbon material. <P>SOLUTION: The carbon material is dispersed in a silica sol solution, and a solvent in the solution is removed by drying treatment. Thereby, silica gel is deposited and fixed on the surface of the carbon material. In addition, a part of a silanol group (-Si-O-H) of the silica gel is dehydrated by heat-treatment, and after it is bridged (-Si-O-Si-), the carbon material is mixed in a polar solvent to adjust paste or slurry. In that case, since a polar group (-Si-O-H) is introduced, dispersibility to the polar solvent is enhanced. A cathode layer 4 is formed by applying the paste or the slurry of the carbon material 5 obtained after adjustment. In addition, a part of the silano group may be chemically bonded to the metal atom of a lower electrode 2. The silica gel 6 functions as an oxygen shielding film. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
