PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent secondary damage on a differential gear, a final reduction gear or the like when a driving shaft is damaged, and thereby to restrain the damage on an entire power transmission device. SOLUTION: The power transmission device 1 is provided with: final reduction gears 24, 25 reducing speed of rotational motion transmitted from a drive source to rotation speed of a wheel; a differential gear mechanism 4 connected to the final reduction gears 24, 25; and the driving shaft 12 connected to the differential gear mechanism 4 to transmit the rotation motion to the driving wheel. A spline joint part to be connected to the differential gear mechanism 4 is provided to one end side of the driving shaft 12; a flange part 12a fixed to a hub 6 supporting the driving wheel is provided to the other side of the driving shaft 12; and the driving shaft 12 is provided with an annular groove 12c in the vicinity of the flange part 12a to reduce an outside diameter of a shank.
