Augmentation of a real optical image obtained with a camera uses mixing with a computer generated virtual image

The camera [6] obtains images of an object [9] that a user is observing and these are fed to an image processor [3]. This image is mixed with a virtual image from a computer [2] to provide correction for the optical distortion produced by the camera in the outer regions of the object. The combined image is fed to a monitor [7] directly in front of the observer.
