Router for data transfer via primary multiplex (PMX) connections, whereby the router (1) in inserted between an existing PMX connection (7) and a telecommunications system (6) and guarantees an office emulator unit (13), while permitting the telecommunications system to be operated in an unaltered manner. A need analysis unit (3) interacts with a connection analysis- and load control unit (2) so that PMX connection channels can be connected and released according to the connection requirement via the router unit.
