PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for correcting an error in a caption of a TV is provided to display the caption error and the right vocabulary by correcting the error to allow a user to easily recognize the error. CONSTITUTION: In a TV provided with a signal divider(20) dividing broadcasting signals received through a tuner(10) into an audio signal, a video signal and a data signal, an audio output portion(31) outputting the divided audio signal, and a display(41) displaying the divided video signal, an apparatus for correcting an error in a caption of the TV includes a data processor(50) processing the data signal divided by the signal divider, a caption decoder(51) decoding caption data processed by the data processor, an OSD processor(53) processing the caption data decoded by the caption decoder and the video signal to be displayed in the display by combining them with each other, a memory(60) storing a vocabulary dictionary to confirm whether there is an error in the caption data, and an OSD controller(52) controlling the OSD processor to display a word with error in a form different from the other words by detecting error of the decoded caption data through the vocabulary dictionary and to display a word automatically corrected through the vocabulary dictionary in a predetermined position of the screen.
