PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image data processing apparatus in which processing is performed not to damage an image data recording operation in the apparatus using a recording medium for which an erasing operation is required before recording, and its control method. SOLUTION: In the image processing apparatus for recording inputted image data to a recording medium 7 by battery driving, when physically erasing data in a logically data erased area on the recording medium 7 on the basis of management data of a management data area on the recording medium 7 in a non-recording operation, an operation for physically erasing the data is controlled in accordance with a battery voltage.
