PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of precisely estimating an optical loss in an optional wavelength of an optical fiber transmission line constituted by connecting a plurality of single-mode optical fibers. SOLUTION: A loss estimation evaluation equation for approximating a loss estimated valueα<SB>T</SB>(λ) to a light of wavelengthλas the total sum with the additive loss of a Rayleigh scattering lossα<SB>R</SB>(λ), a connecting lossα<SB>C</SB>(λ), an OH group absorption lossα<SB>OH</SB>(λ), an infrared absorption lossα<SB>IR</SB>(λ) and a bending lossα<SB>B</SB>(λ) is derived (S11). A loss measurement is executed based on the determination of whether the loss estimation is executed in an optional wavelength or in a wavelength except an E-band (S12). Further, a case classification by the number of connecting points included in the optical transmission line and a connecting method used is performed (S13). Five coefficients (k1, k8, k6, k7 and k5) included in the estimation evaluation equation are determined according to a series of procedures (S14-S18) determined for every case, and the estimated valueα<SB>T</SB>(λ) is calculated (S19).
