PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a cleaning device in which adverse effect on a sound nozzle is suppressed. SOLUTION: The cleaning device for suction cleaning an ink ejecting section comprises a means for inspecting ink ejection from a plurality of ink ejecting sections for forming an image on a medium by ejecting ink wherein a threshold value corresponding to the operating mode of the ink ejecting section is set in correspondence with the quality of an image being formed, the ink ejecting section is sucked based on the threshold value and the inspection results from the ink ejection inspecting means, and then a decision is made whether cleaning is performed or not.
