PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a solid electrolytic capacitor having small variation in capacitance by improving coverage of manganese dioxide layer over an oxide film. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing a solid electrolytic capacitor comprises a step of forming an anodic oxide film layer on the surface of a metal sintered body for valve action followed by the impregnation of manganese nitrate solution, and forming the manganese dioxide layer on the anodic oxide film layer by thermal decomposition. In the method, a step of forming the manganese dioxide layer includes the step of removing the manganese layer deposited on a surface or in the vicinity of the surface of the sintered body by using a mixed solution of 3.0-15.0 wt% of nitrate and 3.0-15.0 wt% of hydrogen peroxide solution.
