PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To optionally control fuel-injection quantity in accordance with temperature of an engine. SOLUTION: The control device of an internal combustion engine comprises a cylinder-pressure sensor 44 for obtaining cylinder pressure, a means for computing quantity of heat transferred from a combustion-chamber wall-surface to in-cylinder gas on the basis of the cylinder pressure, a means for computing temperature of the combustion-chamber wall-surface on the basis of quantity of heat transferred from the combustion-chamber wall-surface to the in-cylinder gas, and a means for controlling quantity of fuel-injection on the basis of temperature on the combustion-chamber wall-surface. Thus, even though temperature of cooling water does not reflect the temperature of the combustion-chamber wall-surface, the fuel-injection quantity can be optimized on the basis of the temperature of the combustion-chamber wall-surface.
