PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the warmup time of a fixing device that fixes a developer to a sheet under heat, by starting the increase of the temperature of a heating unit simultaneously with the start of the operation of the fixing device, by performing, during the increase of the temperature of the heating unit, a process of reading backup data such as a control parameter, a process of synchronizing communication between an image reading part and a control part, and a process of checking errors of devices composing an image forming apparatus, and then adjusting the temperature of the heating unit to a target temperature determined based upon the three processes. SOLUTION: The increase of the temperature of the heating unit is started simultaneously with the start of the fixing device (S21). During the process of increasing the temperature of the heating unit, the process of reading the backup data (S22), the process of synchronizing the communication between the image reading part and the control part (S23), and the process of checking the errors of the devices composing the image forming apparatus (S24) are performed.
