摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology capable of properly obtaining an amount of sticking toner based upon the detected values of quantities of light of a plurality of light components. <P>SOLUTION: An amount of sticking toner is obtained based upon the result of the detection of a quantity of light of a p-polarization component that is the same polarization component as light emitted to an image carrier and the result of the detection of a quantity of light of an s-polarization component that is a polarization component perpendicular to the p-polarization component. By amplifying the s-polarization component of a low level to the one that is Sg times greater than the s-polarization component, a dynamic range is increased. On the other hand, the amount of sticking toner is obtained based upon a difference between the one that is Sg times greater than the result of the detection of the quantity of light of the p-polarization component and the result of the detection of the quantity of light of the s-polarization component.
