PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make data communication with radio communication equipment incapable of establishing a radio communication link directly in a home network system composed of a plurality of radio communication equipment including portable equipment. SOLUTION: In the case of making the data communication from a portable telephone 10 to a portable telephone 12, when the radio communication link cannot be directly established between the portable telephone 10 and the portable telephone 12, the portable telephone 10 searches a device which is capable of directly establishing radio communication. The equipment (a PC 14 or a washing machine 16) which is searched on the basis of such search processing, carries out similar search processing to search the equipment capable of establishing a radio communication link with the portable telephone 12 among the PC 14, the washing machine 16, a refrigerator 18 and a television 20 constituting the communication network. On the basis of the searched result, the portable telephone 10 makes the data communication with the portable telephone 12 via the equipment constituting the communication network.
