PURPOSE:To enable sure vulcanization on an industrial scale in high efficiency preventing the generation of granular structure in extrusion by applying mechanical energy to an amorphous polymer by kneading prior to the initiation of crosslinking reaction with a crosslinking agent. CONSTITUTION:(A) An amorphous polymer having a glass transition temperature of <=-20 deg.C is vulcanized in a closed kneader in the presence of (B) a crosslinking agent while applying shearing force to the polymer. In the above process, more than a specific level of mechanical energy (preferably >=350X10<6>J per 1m<3> of the component A) is applied to the component A by kneading essentially prior to the initiation of the crosslinking reaction with the component B. Preferably, the component A is a copolymer of (i) 50-85mol% of ethylene, (ii) 50-15mol% of an acrylic acid ester and (C) 0-8 pts.wt. (based on 100 pts.wt. of the sum of the components i and ii) of a crosslinkable 3rd component. |
