PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple and rapid method for anaerobic bacterium differentiation. SOLUTION: The differentiation method comprises, in anaerobic bacterium differentiation, directly bringing a chromogenic enzyme substrate against enzyme activity characteristic of the anaerobic bacterium of object differentiation or a water-absorbing carrier containing the chromogenic enzyme substrate into contact with an isolated colony grown on a medium in which the anaerobic bacterium of the object differentiation grows or a pure cultivated bacterium obtained by pure culture of the isolated colony and detecting color development or luminescence of the carrier.
