<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a separator for a lithium battery. <P>SOLUTION: The separator has a film with fine pores and a coating applied thereon. The coating is composed of a mixture of a gel forming polymer, a first solvent, and a second solvent. The first solvent is more volatile than the second solvent.
