<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer which does not cause instability of printing alignment and instability of a platen gap by virtue of force that acts on an open/close-side unit in a driving force transmittable state. <P>SOLUTION: When the open/close-side unit 13 of the printer 1 is closed, torque is transmitted from a reduction gear 63 of a fixed-side unit 12 to a reduction gear 64 of the open/close-side unit 13. The direction of the force F acting on the open/close-side unit 13 from an engage point A of both the gears 63 and 64 is within an angle range θ defined by a line segment L1 connecting the engagement point A and an open/close center point B of the open/close-side unit 13 and a parallel line L2 which is starting from the engagement point A and parallel to the direction orthogonal to impact force F1 acting on a platen 21 from a print head 20. The force F pushes the open/close unit 13 in the direction for closing it and in the direction getting away from the print head 20, therefore printing alignment and a platen gap can be stabilized. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
