PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for fabricating a reflective spatial light modulator member, of which the fabricating cost is low because no special jig is required and with which effective pixels of the reflective spatial light modulator are precisely defined and a projection display device. SOLUTION: Column-shaped supporting members 31a, 31b, 31c are attached to a base 30 of the reflective spatial light modulator. A position of attaching a light shielding plate is decided by pressing and applying a light shielding plate frame 61, with the light shielding plate 60 fixed thereto, on which a part opposite to effective pixels of the reflective spatial light modulator is opened and a CMOS substrate end face 21a of the reflective spatial light modulator 20 to the supporting members 31a, 31b, 31c from mutually opposing directions.
