PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently remove equipment such as an excavator, which is used for a pipe jacking method, in a form which facilitates the use of the equipment in the next pipe jacking work. SOLUTION: In a method for removing the excavator, the excavator 20 is removed from inside ground E in the pipe jacking method wherein the excavator 20 is propelled while excavating the ground E from a starting shaft H to an arrival shaft M. In the excavator 20, a plurality of split cylinders 32 and 34 are bendably connected together, and a buried pipe 10 is connected to a rear part. The method comprises: a process (a) wherein a driving mechanism part 40, which is disconnected from an outer shell cylinder part 30, of the excavator 20 is pulled back to the starting shaft H through the inside of a buried pipe 10 array, and carried out onto ground from the starting shaft H; and a process (b) wherein split members 52a and 52b, obtained by splitting an excavating part 50 into a plurality of parts, of the excavator 20 are carried out onto the ground from the arrival shaft M or the starting shaft H.
