The present invention relates to an input device and an input method which can simplify input operations of characters including alphanumeric characters and input operations of command codes such as passwords, etc. As operation keys, a multidirectional operation key input device (4) that can be operated forward, rearward, rightward, and leftward is adopted, and an operating part of this multidirectional operation key input device is operated so as to draw a predetermined operation track, whereby a predetermined character, etc., can be inputted. As a result, the input operation of a character, etc., can be simplified, and therefore, the invention contributes to further improvement in multi-functionality of electronics devices without an increase in the number of operation keys and without an increase in the number of operation processes of the operation keys.
