The invention concerns a pole-top insulator for carrying overhead electrical cables (7) on pole legs or similar supporting structures (4) located along power lines and that includes one or more self-supporting tubular supporting arms (1, 2, 2') made of electrically insulating composite material to which supporting cables are fixed on the top end of the said supporting structures. In order to make a pole-top insulator that is both insulating and self-supporting and can be prefabricated and mounted as oine unit onto an existing pole leg, the tubular supporting arms (1, 2, 2') are joined to the supporting structure (4) via an intermediate centre part (3) that can be attached to the supporting structure from which the said tubular supporting arms extend outwards.
