The plastics branch saddle (10) for a pipe, to give a pipe branch junction, has an opening (12) formed by a conical cut to take the conical end of a branch pipe. A heating coil (30) is at the inner surface (14) of the cut opening to create a fluid-tight weld between the saddle and the branch pipe. The projecting end of the branch pipe is cut away under the saddle.
