<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inkjet recording material with no fine crack on the surface of an ink receiving layer and with excellent gloss and color developing properties, and an inkjet recording method. <P>SOLUTION: (1) The inkjet recording material has at least two layers of ink receiving layers comprising at least a pigment and a binder on at least one face of a substrate. The inkjet recording material is characterized in that the ink receiving layer 1 of the nearer side to the substrate comprises at least smectite as the pigment, and the ink receiving layer 2 of the farther side to the substrate comprises at least a vapor phase silica as the pigment.
