<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To execute smoothing and defining processing without making the continuity of images unnatural, and to improve image quality. <P>SOLUTION: When a luminance difference BD between objective pixels and surrounding pixels is a threshold t0, image processing is not executed. When the luminance difference BD is larger than the threshold value t0, defining processing is executed, and when the luminance difference BD is smaller than the threshold t0, the smoothing processing is executed. The intensity of the defining processing is linearly increased from 0% to 100% according as the luminance difference BD is increased when t0<BD<to+α, and it is maintained as 100% when the luminance difference BD is t0+α or more. The intensity of the smoothing processing is linearly increased from 0% to 100% according as the luminance difference BD is decreased when t0-α<BD<t0, and it is maintained as 100% when the luminance difference BD is t0-α or less. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
