PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical shutter which is smaller in size and can be operated faster compared to the conventional one. SOLUTION: The optical shutter 1 consists of two multilayer film filters disposed via a space layer 4 and it controls the transmittance of light passing through the multilayer film filters. One of the two multilayer film filters is a fixed filter 2 while the other is a movable filter 3. The movable filter 3 is provided with a minute driving element 5, and the distance between the fixed filter 2 and the movable filter 3 is changed and thereby, the thickness of the space layer 4 is changed by operating the minute driving element 5. Movement of the movable filter 3 is restricted by a stopper 7 which touches the filter when the space layer 4 has the largest thickness and by a projection bump 2a formed on the fixed filter 2 to be in contact with the movable filter when the space layer 4 has the minimum thickness.
