PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that a failure ratio is abnormally raised in application of a reference color data method to a color tone test of a vehicle body painting line. SOLUTION: In ST 21, L*, a* and b* are L*a*b* surface color system data determined from measurement data of a vehicle body, and L*(-1), a*(-1) and b*(-1) are L*a*b* surface color system data determined from measurement data of the previous vehicle body. It is examined whetherΔE is determined in ST 22 is within an allowable difference (allowable difference C of color difference) or not. Namely, it is examined whether or not the vehicle concerned basically has the same color tone as the previous vehicle body or not.
