PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chemically toughened glass which is strong and cuttable. SOLUTION: The chemically toughened glass, having a compressive stress layer formed by ion exchange in the glass surface layer, is produced by subjecting plate glass to a dipping treatment for ion exchange and then to a treatment at a temperature 10°C higher than the dipping temperature. After the dipping treatment, the dipped plate glass is kept at a temperature 10-50°C higher than the dipping temperature for 10-60 min; otherwise, the dipped plate glass is kept at a temperature 50-150°C higher than the dipping temperature for 1-30 min. The dipping temperature is 460-510°C or 410-500°C. Thus produced chemically toughened glass is soda lime glass and has a surface hardness of 560-590 kgf/cm<SP>2</SP>. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
