PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve high installation precision of shaft units, achieve strong coupling with a foundation slab even without using PC steel rods, and shorten the construction period. SOLUTION: An elevator shaft 10 is constructed by stacking foundation units 16 of precast concrete and the shaft units 18 above site-placed foundation slabs 14. Prior to construction of the foundation slabs 14, the foundation units 16 are horizontally installed on an installation surface 28 through a level adjusting means 30. Next, arrangement of reinforcing bars 36 and installation of formwork 38 are conducted inside and outside the foundation units 16. Concrete is then placed to construct the foundation slabs 14 integrated with the foundation units 16 projected. After curing concrete, the shaft units 18 are stacked on the foundation units 16.
