PURPOSE: Provided is a lithium secondary battery, which comprises a fire extinguishing agent in a separate space in the battery casing to prevent the battery from firing when abnormal pressure is generated due to abnormal use of the battery. CONSTITUTION: The lithium secondary battery(100) comprises: an electrode assembly(110) having a cathode plate, anode plate and a separator; a casing(120) having a receiving section(122) for receiving the electrode assembly(110) and a container(130) selectively communicated with the receiving section(122); a fire extinguishing member(140) contained in the container; and a selective communication member(150) that permits the receiving section(122) and the container(130) to be in communication with each other selectively.
