A staircase has a series of steps made from panels which are a combination of outer chipboard panels over and under a sandwich of short, vertical solid wood rods. The panel outer faces are covered by e.g. veneer or printed foil. The chipboard is e.g. a high-pressure laminate of medium-density fibreboard or high-density fibreboard.
