Process for hydrating metal parts having metal oxide layers comprises hydrating only in the region of an outer-lying surface layer which is thinner than the thickness of the metal oxide layer by interrupting the hydrating process obtaining only a partially hydrated metal oxide layer. An independent claim is also included for a metal part with a hydrated metal oxide layer.
