Abradable seal and process for producing thereof

In the present invention, there is disclosed an abradable seal having an abradable layer (5) made of metal material. In the seal surface turned toward a moving part to be sealed a system of through grooves or holes is arranged into a pattern (3) wherein the depth (6) of the grooves or holes is less than thickness of the abradable layer (5) and the width of which is constant all over their depth (6). Process for preparing such an abradable seal for a component comprises cutting a pattern with a laser into a portion of mechanically worked surface of the abradable layer (5) wherein the depth (6) of the cut is less than thickness of the remaining portion of the abradable layer (5), wherein the pattern (3) is selected from the group consisting of closely spaced holes, cross hatch, stripes, and lines perpendicular or parallel to the seal and the width of which is constant all over their depth (6).
