The present invention refers to a water storage tank/heat exchanger for water heaters, which consists of a water reservoir delimited by an outer cylindrical wall, an inner cylindrical wall being disposed in a parallel relationship therebetween, upper and lower annular surfaces and a cold water supply line as well as a hot water release line. The water storage tank/heat exchanger is provided with different heat exchanging means; some means are immersed in the water contained in the storage tank while the remaining means are transversally disposed at the vent of the same. The heat exchanging means immersed in the water contained in the storage tank are useful for the inner flow of combustion gases, and the heat exchanging transversal means include heat capturing plates, said heat is transferred to water that flows within said means, thereby contributing to the combustion gases heat capture and transferring the same to the water contained in the water storage tank/heat exchanger.
