The proposed optical fiber cable with a metallic strengthening element contains a steel core, fiber lightguides, and an external sheath. The gaps between the fiber lightguides and the sheaths of the cable are filled with hydrophobic material. The cable is distinctive by that, for the purpose to increase the resistance of the cable against damage, the fiber lightguides are wound on the core in opposite directions.
