Pieces of film 11 in sheet or short strip form and bearing information, are secured separately at their front ends on a stepped pad 13 so that their rear ends are exposed in overlapping formation (14, Fig. 2), and the pad is slidably mounted in a holder 15 in a selector apparatus. The pad 13 is engaged by a lug 29 on a member 27 which has a further lug 28 engaging a helical groove 24 in a cam 23, whereby when the cam is rotated by a knob 22 and pre-set according to an indicator 26 on the knob, the pad 13 is disposed in a selected position in the holder 15. In the latter position of the pad, the free end of a particular film 11 is disposed below a separator device (Figs 3, 4, 5 and 7), comprising a mounting (34) which is guided for vertical movement produced by a rack and pinion means (45, 46) operable by a rod and knob (47, 48). As the mounting descends, a curved, transverselydisposed finger (42) on one leg (36) engages and depresses all the film pieces below the piece to be seleeted, and a curved finger (41) on a leg (35) rests on the free end of the selected film. Thus, when the pad 13 is moved towards the mounting (34) by rotating the knob 22, the deflected films are directed downwards, and the films overlying the finger (41) are directed upwards, and the selected film can then be located and positioned in registry with an optical axis (18, Fig. 5) for viewing without physically removing the film from the pad 13. |
