PURPOSE: A process for producing cellulose ether is provided to shorten the working processes and times to improve the productivity, and to decrease the amount of waste water to be environmentally favorable. CONSTITUTION: The process for producing a cellulose ether comprises washing the cellulose ether slurry obtained by softening and etherifying a finely cellulose slurry with hot water to remove salts, and then grinding and drying it. The process is characterized in that the cellulose ether slurry is washed by introducing it into a rotatable filter to wash and filter by means of hot water and steam repeatedly so that the salts can be removed, and then carrying out grinding and drying of the filtered product at the same time.
