PURPOSE: A method for measuring a distance by using a camera in a portable terminal device is provided to photograph an image by using a camera coupled with a portable terminal and to measure a length or a distance by analyzing the image. CONSTITUTION: A method for measuring a distance by using a camera(120) in a portable terminal includes a step of establishing a measurement mode. An object image is photographed in order to measure a distance of an object. A photographed image is matched with a real coordinate. A measuring part is appointed at a matched image screen. A real photograph height is inputted into portable terminal. A distance of an appointed part is measured. The real coordinate matched with the photographed image is the coordinate, which is obtained by positioning the camera(120) at a predetermined height.
