Method for locating and measuring deformations in civil engineering structures in which a geo-synthetic material layer, containing a plurality of parallel optical fibers (2a-e), is applied to or below the structure. The optical fibers comprise Bragg gratings (3) equally spaced and distributed in series (4) of consecutive gratings. The numbers and distributions of the gratings are such that measurements of wavelength shifts between light incident and reflected from the individual gratings can be detected and related to deformation locations and the elongations of the fibers at said locations. The invention also relates to a corresponding geosynthetic material layer. |
