PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spherical surface prototype which is to be used for an optical instrument such as an interferometer, which can be easily produced with high surface accuracy even when the numerical aperture of a condenser lens being an evaluation object is large, and which can be easily positioned and make stable observation possible. SOLUTION: The prototype has an incidence plane 2, a reflective face 3 being a concave spherical surface and facing the incidence plane 2, and a medium having a refractive index exceeding 1 between the incidence plane 2 and the reflective face 3. The distance from the incidence plane 2 to the reflective face 3 is equal to the sum of the optical path length of a cover glass corresponding to the condenser lens 101 which condenses a beam falling on the incidence plane 2 and the radius of curvature of the reflective face 3.
