REGION DETECTION METHOD AND ITS DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a region detection method by which an appropriate threshold is set regardless of photographing conditions and a specific region such as a face region is quickly exactly detected, and to provide its device.

SOLUTION: The device comprises: a picture data storage section 10 for storing sample pictures 12 and a picture of interest 11; a first calculating means 1 including a common extract region and for generating a threshold table 8 for average lightness by acquiring threshold data for identifying the extract region on a plurality of sample pictures 12 having different average lightness by means of a genetic algorithm; a second calculating means 2 for adaptively calculating and deriving the threshold data for identifying the extract region on the picture of interest 11 on the basis of the average lightness of the picture of interest and the threshold table 8; and a third calculating means 3 for detecting the extract region on the basis of the threshold data calculated and derived by the second calculating means 2.
